About Us
Christ Temple Ministries will continually strive to achieve higher heights in God, through Jesus Christ. We stand firm in our commission and ministry to win souls for Christ, teach the Word, provide direction to the lost, and help those without peace find joy in God’s Salvation.
Vision
To expand Christ Temple Ministries beyond the traditional church walls and to reach out to the world with the Word of God. Christ Temple Evangelical Ministries will grow a global evangelical ministry that will touch as many souls as God places in our care. We will always “be confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you WILL perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:5)
Background
On December 5, 1985, Rev. Don Meredith Welch met with four others to plan the formation of a new mission church. Reverend Welch, then staff Assistant to the Pastor of Oak Grove African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church, was supported by the Reverend David E. Mitcham, Pastor of Oak Grove A.M.E. Church, and its’ congregation in this undertaking.
In May of 1986, a Bible Study group was formed, on November 2, 1986, our first church service was held at the Northwest YMCA, and on Friday, September 9, 1988, Christ Temple Church was voted into the Michigan Annual Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
On July 2, 2000 we joined the International Councils of Community Churches, becoming Christ Temple Community Methodist Church.
We have always endeavored to live up to our mission statement and the call of the Lord, to feed the hungry, visit the sick and to care for the needy. We have given several thousand dollars to those in need. We have given assistance to flood victims and families burnout by fire, victims of 911 and we have sent support for African Refugee Relief. Over the years we have given to causes such as the Urban League, The United Negro College Fund, NAACP, American Legion and others. We have supported and prayed for our sick and assisted families at their time of loss and need.
Christ Temple has donated to food programs and prepared food baskets at Christmas time as well as giving scholarships to our youths and gone into our public schools system to encourage young students.
We have established the “Good Soldier Award” to recognize outstanding citizens which have endured public suffering while holding fast to their faith. In June of 1997 to June of 1998 we broadcasted our radio outreach ministry, entitled “Makin’ It Real”, on Station WMKM 1440 AM.
We have preached the Word in the pulpits of A.M.E., Baptist, Church of God in Christ, Episcopalian, Presbyterian and nondenominational churches in and out of Michigan.
Our efforts have not gone unnoticed, our church, Pastor, and First Lady have received public acknowledgement for their community service. The acknowledgements have ranged from than you cards and letters to “The Spirit of Detroit Award” a Testimonial Resolution from the Wayne County Board of Commissioners, Certificate of Appreciation form the Detroit City Clerks Office as well as a Special Tribute from the State of Michigan Senate and others.
In an effort to have a greater impact in the community Christ Temple Evangelical Ministries was established in December of 2005. Through educational workshops, seminars and guest preaching engagements Christ Temple Evangelical Ministries is design to touch and prayerfully transform lives for Christ.
We are a small but loving church committed to continuing in the same spirit of Christian love and mission as those who have set the pace before us. We have seen some of our founding members travel from labor to reward, they have passed the torch on to we who still remain and we intend to let it burn brightly for years to come.
